Patricia Fisher Endowed Scholarship - Seattle Foundation .


Established by the Seattle Association of Black Journalists (SABJ), the Scholarship fund will help students of the African & African American diaspora who are from or attending college in Washington State and who are pursuing college careers in communications. The scholarship was established to honor Patricia Fisher, a Puget Sound native, journalist, educator and role model for her support of young people and her contributions to the community. Awards are based on scholastic achievement, financial need, community service and a serious interest in communications, such as print, photo, broadcast journalism or multimedia and online journalism. In addition to receiving the Patricia Fisher Endowed Scholarship, recipient(s) will also be matched with a mentor who is a SABJ member.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Student must residents of Washington State attending or planning to attend college or university within the U.S. OR be attending or planning to attend a college or university in Washington State (public or private, 2-year and 4-year). 
  • Open to graduating High School Seniors and currently enrolled college students.
  • Must be pursuing a field of study in Communications.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.

This  scholarship is a non-renewable, one-time award, ranging between $500 to $2,500.

You will be directed to a new page where you will select "Register as an individual" and prompted to enter your personal information. Upon creation of your applicant account you will click on "View programs" and search for the Patricia Fisher Endowed Scholarship, using the search bar. Complete the SurveyMonkey Apply online application with all required attachments. 




APPLICATION COMPONENTS

Key application components include:

  • Media Experience. Please include a list of previous media experience which should include: Company Name/Organization, Dates, Supervisor and Contact Phone Number.
  • Essay. Write an essay of not less than 500 nor more than 1500 words. Tell us about yourself and why you want to work in the filed of communications. Discuss the challenges you foresee, how you think you can contribute to the profession and how you think you can contribute to your community.
  • Work Sample. In addition, you must submit a maximum of three examples of your best work (word/PDF, photos, videos, or audio files).
  • References. Please include two reference letters with your application. These letters should be from people who know you through your academic or employment experience or your community leadership and participation. (Do not include relatives as references.)
